It's understood that everyone that plays WoW is doing so to have fun. "Fun" is certainly in the eye of the beholder, however, and that's where different styles of guild come into play.

I won't break down all the different kinds of guild out there. Suffice it to say that not all guilds have the same goals.  RuneRunners does, at the very least, want to do a raid now and again.

If you want to raid and succeed (or at least, have a good chance to) you need a few things.

Teamwork

Leadership

Attitude

Yeah sure, you need gear and skill but honestly; those two things can be garnered much easier than the three things I listed.

To get these three things must be an effort put forth by every raiding guildmember.

Teamwork:

Listen to your class lead. Follow instructions to the best of your ability. If your best ability isn't enough; find out how to make it better and do so. Be on time. Be present. Share your opinions in the right forums (like... the forums! or downtime, after the raid, etc.) but do share them.

If everyone pulls for the same goal, we'll get there come hell or high water.

Leadership:

You might be thinking "I don't have to worry about the leadership - I'm just an initiate".

You could not be more wrong. Asking in guild chat "Anyone need help with anything?" or "What can I do to improve my +healing?" is all about leadership. Leadership means leading the way - and that means not waiting for something to happen to make things better or best, but getting off your can and doing things.

Of course, without a steady hand on the wheel at raids and functions, a raiding guild will flal apart; but the best raid leader or guild master in the universe can't transform an apathetic guild into an enthusiastic one.

A good guildmate takes the intiative to help out their fellow guildmates and, if nothing else, lead themselves when needed.

Attitude

"Darn it, I joined this guild to get some help! Why won't anyone help me!"

"Blast. I say 'hi' in guild chat and no one says hi back!"

"MY gears is teh sux. How come no one will go farm epix for me?"

Do these things sound like something a good guildie would say? Certainly not.

A good guildmate has these attitudes:

"Does anyone need help with something?"

"Right now, I'm farming mats for fire potions. We'll need them on the raid this weekend."

"I have a problem with overhealing. Can someone give me some pointers?"

A guildmate wants to help the guild in order to have fun. Sure, they want phat lootz and glory. But they know the way to get there is to pull together and kick tail; not whine and wait around for something to happen.

So; to summarize.

A Great Guildmate does these things:

Be present

Be on time

Offer to help

Try hard

Be patient

Be cool
